Dropbox Uploader 0.12 Released [Bash Script To Access Dropbox Via Command Line]

<div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://github.com/andreafabrizi/Dropbox-Uploader">Dropbox Uploader</a> is a bash script that allows you to perform various actions on your <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/">Dropbox</a> (upload, download, delete, share, etc.) without installing the Dropbox client. This is useful for servers, automatic backups or accessing Dropbox from ARM devices, like Raspberry Pi.</div><br /><a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">The script was updated recently, getting a copy function, a "-s" option to skip existing files when uploading/downloading (files are overwritten by default), along with other changes. </div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Here are the <b>changes in the latest Dropbox Uploader 0.12:</b></div><ul style="text-align: justify;"><li>added copy function;</li><li>added <i>-s</i> option to skip existing files when upload/download;</li><li>fixed problem uploading twice the same directory;</li><li>add checking for not allowed file names;</li><li>handling connection/resolving host errors;</li><li>better error handling;</li><li>converted if condition to BASH native syntax;</li><li>added normalize_path function, to canonicalize paths;</li><li>removed check for free quota on every file upload to improve performance;</li><li>added checks for file permissions before writing/reading files on the local fs;</li><li>fixed unicode problem in file listing;</li><li>many other minor changes and improvements.</li></ul><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Since our last article about Dropbox Uploader</b>, the script has received numerous improvements, including <b>support for downloading and uploading directories</b>, move/rename function and more.</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The latest Dropbox Uploader 0.12 supports the following commands: upload, download, delete, move, copy, mkdir, list, share, info and unlink. Tiny Tiny RSS Ubuntu PPA (Google Reader Alternative)

<div style="text-align: justify;">A while back we wrote about <a href="http://www.webupd8.org/2013/04/how-to-install-tiny-tiny-rss-in-ubuntu.html">installing and configuring Tiny Tiny RSS in Ubuntu</a>, a Google Reader (which will be closing in July) alternative that you can host on your computer / server, but the version available in the Ubuntu repositories is pretty old, so I've <b>uploaded the latest Tiny Tiny RSS version to a PPA, which should make it a lot easier to install in Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10 or 12.04</b>.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y5F6fTXJS-U/UaOSDbeRH6I/AAAAAAAAPWE/DEPvDkLl1h4/s1600/tiny-tiny-rss-1.7.9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Tiny Tiny RSS" border="0" height="220" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-y5F6fTXJS-U/UaOSDbeRH6I/AAAAAAAAPWE/DEPvDkLl1h4/s320/tiny-tiny-rss-1.7.9.png" title="Tiny Tiny RSS" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>At the time I'm writing this article, our PPA has Tiny Tiny RSS version 1.7.9</b>, while Ubuntu 13.04 has version 1.6.2. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Since version 1.6.2, there have been many changes</b>, like interface and typography improvements, error logging, new plugin system that includes plugins such as importing starred/shared.json files from Google Reader takeout or emulate Google Reader keyboard shortcuts and others, improved feed update speed, implemented basic password recovery and many other new features, tweaks and bug fixes.<br /><br /><a name='more'></a><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vDsSAWugGAc/UaOSV7iRbPI/AAAAAAAAPWU/5AGd7ZEv_EQ/s1600/tiny-tiny-rss-plugins.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="220" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vDsSAWugGAc/UaOSV7iRbPI/AAAAAAAAPWU/5AGd7ZEv_EQ/s320/tiny-tiny-rss-plugins.png" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Plugins available in Tiny Tiny RSS 1.7.9</td></tr></tbody></table></div><br /><br /><h2>Install (and configure) the latest Tiny Tiny RSS in Ubuntu via PPA</h2><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">The PPA packages are the work of Sebastian Reichel, who is maintaining Tiny Tiny RSS for Debian. I've just tweaked the package to work with the latest Tiny Tiny RSS 1.7.9 (Debian has 1.7.8 for now) and uploaded it to the PPA.<br /><br /><b>Update: the PPA now provides Tiny Tiny RSS 1.9. </b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><br /><b>1.</b> Before proceeding with the Tiny Tiny RSS installation, let's install MySQL and Apache:<br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client apache2 libapache2-mod-php5</code></pre><br /><b>2. To add our Tiny Tiny RSS PPA and install the latest TT-RSS in Ubuntu 13.04, 12.10 or 12.04, use the following commands in a terminal:</b><br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/tt-rss<br />sudo apt-get update<br />sudo apt-get install tt-rss</code></pre><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>If you're upgrading from an older Tiny Tiny RSS version</b> (I've tested it with Tiny Tiny RSS 1.6.2 from the Ubuntu repositories and then upgraded to the latest 1.7.9), <b>you'll be prompted to select some options:</b></div><ul><li style="text-align: justify;">you'll need enter the full URL of you tt-rss installation (for instance "<i>http://localhost/tt-rss/</i>" for a local install);</li><li style="text-align: justify;">replace the configuration file: select to replace the original configuration file or else you'll get some errors (when you reach see "<i>config.php (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N]</i>" in the terminal, type "Y" (without the quotes), then press Enter);</li><li>perform upgrade on database for tt-rss : select "yes".</li></ul><br /><b>If this is a fresh installation, you'll be prompted to:</b><br /><ul><li style="text-align: justify;">choose the database type: select MySQL;</li><li style="text-align: justify;">choose the web server - select Apache2;</li><li style="text-align: justify;">you'll need enter the full URL of you tt-rss installation (for instance "<i>http://localhost/tt-rss/</i>" for a local install).</li></ul><br />If later on you want to reconfigure tt-rss, you can run the following command:<br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo dpkg-reconfigure tt-rss</code></pre><br /><b>3.</b> This shouldn't be required anymore since TT-RSS should do this automatically but just in case, run the following commands:<br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo ln -s ../conf-available/50-tt-rss.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d/<br />sudo service apache2 restart</code></pre>(if the first one fails, don't worry, it just means the symbolic link was already created by Tiny Tiny RSS).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>4.</b> The next step is to enter your server address under <i>/etc/tt-rss/config.php</i> so open that file with a text editor as root - I'll use nano for the command below:</div><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo nano /etc/tt-rss/config.php</code></pre><div style="text-align: justify;">and in this file, scroll down to "<i>define('SELF_URL_PATH', 'http://example.org/tt-rss/');</i>" and replace "<i>yourserver</i>" with your server address, or use "<i>localhost</i>" if you only plan on using it locally. Then save the file and exit (to save and exit in Nano text editor, press: CTRL + o, ENTER then CTRL + x).</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Update:</b> this step doesn't seem to be required any more since the initial config now writes the correct address in this file, but I'll leave it here just in case.</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>5. </b>To get Tiny Tiny RSS to update the feeds, you need to edit the <i>/etc/default/tt-rss</i> file as root with a text editor - I'll use nano command line text editor in the command below:</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo nano /etc/default/tt-rss</code></pre></div><div style="text-align: justify;">and in this file, change "DISABLED" from "1" to "0", then save the file and exit (to save an exit in Nano, press CTRL + o, ENTER then CTRL + x).</div><br />And finally, start the Tiny Tiny RSS service:<br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo service tt-rss start</code></pre><div style="text-align: justify;">You only need to run this command once, the tt-rss daemon should start automatically on each system startup.</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>6.</b> Now navigate to your server address (which you've set up under step 3 - e.g.: <i>http://localhost/tt-rss/</i>) and use the following to log in:</div><ul><li>username: <b>admin</b></li><li>password: <b>password</b></li></ul><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Then, change the password (!) and start importing your Google Reader feeds or add some feeds manually.</div>

Cloud Sync Tool `Seafile` 1.6.0 Gets Improved Collaboration Features

Also, you can easily add pictures and attachements to the wiki pages. Install Tiny Tiny RSS in Ubuntu. </b><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Firstly, let's install Tiny Tiny RSS and MySQL (I've used MySQL but you can also use PostGreSql).</div><br /><b>To install mysql-server and mysql-client, use the following command:</b><br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo apt-get install mysql-server mysql-client apache2 libapache2-mod-php5</code></pre><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>For Ubuntu 12.10 and 13.04</b>, install Tiny Tiny RSS using the following command:</div><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo apt-get install tt-rss</code></pre><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>For Ubuntu 12.04</b>, we'll need to download and install the Tiny Tiny RSS deb from Ubuntu 13.04:</div><pre class="linux-code"><code>cd && wget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tt-rss/1.6.2+dfsg-2/+build/4195975/+files/tt-rss_1.6.2%2Bdfsg-2_all.deb<br />sudo dpkg -i tt-rss*.deb<br />sudo apt-get install -f</code></pre><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Then, follow the instructions. <b>When prompted, select "mysql" and "apache2"</b> for the web server.</div><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">If for some reason you want to run the initial configuration again, use the following command:</div><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo dpkg-reconfigure tt-rss</code></pre><br /><b>2. Setting up Tiny Tiny RSS.</b><br /><br />You need to edit<i> /etc/tt-rss/config.php</i> with a text editor as root, e.g.: nano:<br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo nano /etc/tt-rss/config.php</code></pre>- in this file, scroll down to "<i>define('SELF_URL_PATH', 'http://yourserver/tt-rss/');</i>" and replace "<i>yourserver</i>" with your server address, or use "<i>localhost</i>" if you only plan on using it locally. Then save the file and exit (press: CTRL + o, ENTER then CTRL + x).<br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Next, let's link to the Apache rules and restart the Apache service (I believe that the Debian version of tt-rss - 1.7.8 -, that doesn't require this):</div><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo ln -s ../conf-available/50-tt-rss.conf /etc/apache2/conf.d<br />sudo service apache2 restart</code></pre><br /><b>3. Getting Tiny Tiny RSS to update the feeds.</b><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">By default, Tiny Tiny RSS doesn't update the feeds. To get it to update the feeds automatically, we'll need to edit the <i>/etc/default/tt-rss</i> file as root with a text editor. Once again, we'll use nano:</div><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo nano /etc/default/tt-rss</code></pre><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">And in this file, change "<i>DISABLED</i>" from "<i>1</i>" to "<i>0</i>", then save the file and exit (to save an exit in Nano, press CTRL + o, ENTER then CTRL + x).</div><br />And finally, start the Tiny Tiny RSS service:<br /><pre class="linux-code"><code>sudo service tt-rss start</code></pre><div style="text-align: justify;">You only need to run this command once, the tt-rss daemon should start automatically on each system startup.</div><br /><br /><b>4. Finishing up the Tiny Tiny RSS configuration.</b><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Now navigate to <i><a href="http://localhost/tt-rss">http://localhost/tt-rss</a></i>, use "<b>admin" for the username</b> and <b>"password" for the password</b>, log in, make sure you change the default password and make any other changes you want.</div><br /><br /><b>5. Optional: import your Google Reader feeds into Tiny Tiny RSS.</b><br /><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>- a.</b> Firstly export your Google Reader data from <a href="https://www.google.com/takeout/#custom:reader">HERE</a>. Seafile: Robust File Synchronization And Collaboration Tool That You Can Run On Your Linux Server

<div style="text-align: justify;"><b><a href="http://seafile.com/">Seafile</a> is an open source cloud file synchronization and collaboration tool, similar to <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/">Dropbox</a>,</b><b> <a href="http://www.webupd8.org/2012/05/owncloud-4-released-with-file.html">OwnCloud</a> or <a href="http://www.webupd8.org/2012/12/install-sparkleshare-10-in-ubuntu.html">SparkleShare</a>, that you can use on your Linux server or you can sign up for a Seafile account and get 5GB of free space on their servers.</b></div><br /><br /><b>Seafile features:</b><br /><ul><li>Seafile uses file libraries which can be synchronized separately;</li><li>Users can create and join groups;</li><li>File revisions;</li><li>File preview, comments, event notifications;</li><li>Library encryption;</li><li>Share files; </li><li><b>Clients available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android and iOS.</b></li></ul><br /><a name='more'></a><br /><h2>Why Seafile?</h2><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">So why use Seafile and not Dropbox, <a href="http://www.webupd8.org/2012/05/owncloud-4-released-with-file.html">OwnCloud</a> or <a href="http://www.webupd8.org/2012/12/install-sparkleshare-10-in-ubuntu.html">SparkleShare</a>? According to the Seafile developers, their tool is more mature than ownCloud or SparkleShare, ready for production (both the server and client) and has an online collaboration feature useful for teamwork, which isn't available in Dropbox.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">However, Seafile does have less features some similar services: for instance, the calendar feature available in ownCloud is not available for Seafile. But Seafile is still very powerful: <b>it doesn't depend on GIT but it does uses a version control model similar to GIT, which is simplified and has some advantages</b> such as: automatic syncing, no history stored on the client side meaning that the data is not stored twice (GIT is not efficient for large files), more user-friendly file conflicts, handles cases such as when the user modifies files when auto-sync is running, file transfer can be resumed and more.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The Seafile Linux client consists of an <b>AppIndicator / tray icon</b> that displays the sync status and lets you open the client (in the browser), disable autosync or restart Seafile, displays sync notifications, and a pretty basic web interface:</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gXbE366Vtsk/UQvbsUSGwJI/AAAAAAAANJE/vNQFwnbrImA/s1600/seafile-client.png" imageanchor="1" rel="image_group" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Seafile Linux client"><img alt="Seafile Linux client" border="0" height="214" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gXbE366Vtsk/UQvbsUSGwJI/AAAAAAAANJE/vNQFwnbrImA/s320/seafile-client.png" title="Seafile Linux client" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Unfortunately, there's no file manager integration so you can't share files, access previous revisions or see the file sync status from the file manager, but like I was saying above, you can see the global sync status thanks to the tray icon. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Most of the features are accessible from the server web interface (which is either installed on your own Linux server or via Seafile's website): there, you can create new private or public libraries, see all the changes / revisions and files, download, upload or create new files and folders, share files, create or join groups, add contacts, post messages to grups, set up group notifications and so on.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">When you click on library, you'll notice that the interface looks a lot like GitHub:</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3IikSiB1wMU/UQvb89ofivI/AAAAAAAANJM/5tRVrRSXNNU/s1600/seafile-server-workspace-library.png" imageanchor="1" rel="image_group" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Seafile library example"><img alt="Seafile library example" border="0" height="182" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3IikSiB1wMU/UQvb89ofivI/AAAAAAAANJM/5tRVrRSXNNU/s320/seafile-server-workspace-library.png" title="Seafile library example" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /><div style="text-align: justify;">Here, you can see all the files available in that library, access the library history and so on. Dropbox Uploader Bash Script: Useful For Servers, Raspberry Pi And More

<div style="text-align: justify;"><b><a href="https://github.com/andreafabrizi/Dropbox-Uploader">Dropbox Uploader</a> is a bash script you can use to access your <a href="http://www.dropbox.com/">Dropbox</a> files from the command line, without having to install the Dropbox client. The script can upload, download, delete, share or list the files available in your Dropbox account.</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The script is useful in many situations, including: automatic backups, access Dropbox from an ARM server / <b><a href="http://www.webupd8.org/2012/02/raspberry-pi-computer-goes-on-sale.html">Raspberry Pi</a></b>, etc. (since Dropbox isn't available for ARM). That's because its only requirement is cURL, so you don't have to install the Dropbox client to quickly upload or download some files from Dropbox.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><a name='more'></a><div style="text-align: justify;">Dropbox Uploader isn't just for Linux and it should work on Mac OSX, FreeBSD or Windows/Cygwin too. Also, since it uses the official Dropbox API for the authentication process, you don't have to enter your username and password and you can easily revoke its access to your account from the Dropbox website.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The first time your run the script, you must create a Dropbox app and allow the script to access your Dropbox account.
